What is driving it

How ComEd buys default service supply, and at what price

The Illinois Power Agency buys the power behind ComEd’s price to compare in auctions held ahead of each service period; the latest reaches more than two years ahead. Through May 2027 the auctions deliberately buy only part of that supply: every ComEd customer also pays or receives carbon mitigation credits from Illinois nuclear plants, which tend to move opposite to market prices.
